Daito-ryu Italia Story

During this period I was the leader of one of two Jujutsu schools of another style. It was the leader of the other Jujutsu school who after a trip to Japan established the first contact and invited Master Seigo Okamoto to Denmark.Over the years we had both heard so much about this mysterious Daito-Ryu so I told him that of course he could rely on my students and I to help him also financially. So the first seminar with Master Seigo Okamoto was a reality. Years later I decided to move to Italy. The first couple of years it was very difficult to start a new group. I did not know the Italian Budo world which is a lot more complicated than the Danish. By this I mean the difficulties in finding the right place to practice .It was only much later that we managed to find a school with a gymnasium where we could practise. As our group is a non-profit organisation and we do not receive any kind of financial help, the municipality approved that we could use the school’s sport facilities, which has been a great help financially. Finally in 1991 the Roppokai Italian branch was officially opened and the first seminar was held with the participation of Master Seigo Okamoto. The first seminar was an open seminar for every-body but later it was only for members of the club. The seminar in December 2000 with the participation of Master Okamoto was the forth time we had a seminar. We are very fortunate to be instructed by the master in person and hopefully we will one day understand the meaning of AIKI. I have been to Japan several times and have been instructed by Master Okamotohimself. Hopefully this will help me to be able to understand AIKI better. Year 2000 I had the great pleasure of taking three of our members with me to Japanto the 20th anniversary of Roppokai. I will never forget this journey. Our oldest representative, 62 years old Gianni Vaccari, tasted raw fish and drank sake. But for sure I do not think that he will ever move to Japan. I have a strange feeling that he likes Italian food better than Japanese. Maybe because he took with him to Japan 8 kilos of pasta, 6 cans of peeled tomatoes, 3 cans of beans …. and one bottle of Grappa Nardini for the coffee. I think that he was afraid of starving to death. His wife Clara was our moral support as only an Italian woman and mother can be.One thing is sure, our technique improved tremendeusly and I will certainly never forget that trip. Practicing Budo all these years have given me many great memories but the best is all the friendships I have made also outside Italy. This strengthens my thoughts that ”whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap”. I wish to thank all my friends within and outside the club, the families, but in particulary my wife Rosella, who during all these years have supported and helped us through all the hard times (which certainly have not finished yet) when needed. Finally a special thank you to Master Seigo Okamoto for the good times we have spent together in the dojos of Tokyo, Osaka, U.S. Navy in Yokosuka, Denmark and the many trips we have been on together. There have been many memorable moments over the years, for which I thank you all for.Thank you!Massimo Dellepiane4°dan

The story of Daito-ryu AikiJuJutsu Roppokai Italy

1991 M°Okamoto Italy

1985 Denmark - Mr. Hiroshi Mutoh, Master Seigo Okamoto and Mr. Masaru Asahara

The story of Daito-ryu AikiJuJutsu Roppokai Italy goes back to the time when I, Massimo Dellepiane, was living in Denmark in Scandinavia. In 1959 my parents moved to Denmark from Italy. At that time I was only six months old and I stayed in Denmark until I was 25 years old. It all began in 1973 in my hometown DRAGØR in DENMARK. One day I came out of the ocal cinema after having seen a karaté movie. Outside a man was handing out brochures about a style of Karaté, which he and a few others were responsible for in Denmark. His name was Jan Gert Timm. I was only 13 years old when I started learning Karaté with him. Over the years I saw many different martial arts. Then one day I met my old Karate teacher again. Just like me he was also trying to understand the strange martial art of DAITO-RYU.The first contact that I had with Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai was in 1985 in Denmark during a seminar. There for first time, Master Seigo Okamoto showed his art outside Japan. He was accompanied by two senior students:
